Car Ownership Problems 2023, Take 3

Updated: Oct 22, 2023

OUR FORD EXPLORER

(seldom called "Pounce de Lion")

(or a Reasonable Facsimile Thereof)

I do not drive Senor de Lion. I believe myself to be a danger behind the wheel. Ergo, the dotter takes me wherever I need to go. I insisted she be the co-owner of our vehicle and listed as primary driver on the insurance. I call it her car.

My eldest grandson is an adult, and still lives with us. He has only a learner's permit. I suggested to her that we have him get some practice when she takes me grocery shopping. Somehow, that resulted in the grandson taking me shopping.

Are you scared yet?

This is a fine tradition. The older family member teaching the younger how to drive. To quote Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies, "I am too old for this shit!" Just a few observations:

  1. Grandson is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

  2. Grandson has internalized the "5 over the speed limit is okay" meme. He gets that from his mother. Then he drives 8 to 10 over.

  3. Grandson has never attempted to parallel park, and will go miles out of his way to avoid same.

  4. Grandson swings wide around every turn. Every turn.

  5. Grandson needs more practice. A lot more practice.

2023-10-22 Update:

Sometime last month (or even earlier), eldest grandson took the driving test... and passed. Nobody told me right away.
