Some time around the beginning of May, our city-provided trash can went out with the trash. The can was damaged - the hinge was missing and the lid just sat on top. We assume they hauled it away with the rest of the trash.
The dotter sent them an email. I called a number of times. All my calls after the first (during which I spoke to a human) were greeted with "Due to a high volume..." and sent to voicemail.
In the meantime, our trash has been going to the curb in trashbags. Creatures have attempted to help themselves to the contents, which requires us to rebag the trash and watch for varmints.
After nearly a month of this, a new can was delivered. Problem solved, if slowly.
